SDG13
This piece entitled ‘Trees of life and death’ (SDG 13 climate action) was created by Ewen Cullimore in the year 2024. The aim of this is to address the climate crisis caused by the large deforestation of trees around the world and ways in which we can help to mitigate, prevent and reverse the effects it is having on our planet. My idea is that one of the quickest and effective ways in which we can counter the effects of deforestation is through the creation of carbon capturing artificial trees which are much more efficient at capturing carbon in the atmosphere compared to living trees. My sculptures represent an idea of a façade that could be added to these artificial trees to make them look less of an eyesore and instead more appealing compared to the bare metal and weird shapes of those that exist now. A secondary purpose is to also remind viewers of the fact these are only a supplement for real trees which are still being destroyed around the world with their look of being partly chopped down and help educate people about the climate crisis.
