SDG13

The need for immediate and effective action is clear in the context of growing concern about climate change, as emphasized in various reports such as BBC News and Global Goals. Recognizing that today’s children will have a profound impact on the future, educating them about climate change has become a key strategy. It’s not just about shaping environmentally conscious future leaders, it’s about developing environmentally conscious future leaders. It’s about using their learning to foster sustainable behaviors within their communities and families. Through a series of studies, we decided to use digital visual media (app, video, and infographics) to effectively communicate to children the seriousness of climate change, its causes, and possible solutions. This was in line with children’s insights into their limited conceptual understanding of environmental issues and the call for educational content that is both engaging and informative. We have categorized the project content into three formats, each focusing on a different aspect of climate change, designed to provide a comprehensive understanding and inspire meaningful action, in line with the global goal of mitigating and adapting to climate change.

App

Developed by Eleni Diamantopoulou and Yuhan Wang in 2024, the “Go Green” app is an engaging educational platform designed to inform children about climate action (SDG 13). Our design focuses on user-friendliness, with an intuitive taskbar and buttons that provide seamless navigation for young audiences. We use consistent visual elements to keep users engaged and easy to understand.

At the heart of Go Green’s educational strategy are interactive games. “Eco Live” simulates scenarios that encourage children to make sustainable choices, thereby teaching them the impact of their actions on their carbon footprint. Another MBTI-inspired game “Eco Hero” assigns eco-roles to players based on their personalities, illustrating how individual behaviors collectively contribute to environmental protection. This unique approach not only educates children but also empowers them by connecting their behavior to broader environmental outcomes.

We combine psychological insights with environmental science to create an engaging learning experience. By identifying with eco-heroes, kids are inspired to actively participate in sustainability efforts. The app emphasizes the importance of creative educational tools in addressing global issues like climate change, showing kids that even small actions can make a meaningful difference. As such, Go Green is a great resource for developing a generation of dedicated environmental stewards, highlighting the critical role of imaginative education in promoting a sustainable future.
